How we live
Røntofte acts as a collective, but you can easily retreat to the floor you live, to your room, a smaller kitchen or living room in the house. We can accommodate 14 women and children, and the house is a big villa with multiple floors. You have your own room and share a bathroom with others. You also have access to washing and cleaning facilities. We have big common areas, and the kitchen is the heart of the house. In the kitchen, we cook and eat all meals together every day. We celebrate birthdays and festive events, decorate the house, and everyone contributes to make Røntofte as homelike and safe as possible.
We see to getting an interpreter when necessary. Furthermore, we offer Danish classes to all adults and young adults who need it.

You have the right to a life without violence
Everyone has the right to a life without violence. It is completely unacceptable to be exposed to violence, and it is in fact a human right not to be subjected to any kind. Physical and psychologic violence is punishable, also if it is happening within your own home. It is estimated that around 33.000 women in Denmark are exposed to domestic violence. No women voluntarily start a relationship with domestic violence. Domestic abuse increases gradually during a period and alternate between affection and abuse. The alternation between love and abuse can be considered as part of the coercive control which is an added complication to create more insecurity and confusion in your life and your children’s life.
The seven types of violence
Physical violence: When you are hit, beaten, pushed, thrown or exposed to violence using a weapon or other objects. Coercive control: When you are talked down to, shouted at, criticized, controlled, managed or isolated. Sexual violence: When you are forced to have sex or participate in sexual acts, you do not like or your boundaries are crossed. Material violence: When your possessions are ruined, such as clothe, jewellery or your phone. Economical violence: When you are robbed of your right of disposal of your economy or forced into the incurring of debts. Electronic violence: When you via mail, text, webcam or other electronic devices receive threats. It might be hidden threats, control and surveillance. Threats of violence: When you or your children are threatened with the above-mentioned types of violence. It may be that your family or friends are threatened by the perpetrator.
The spiral of violence
The violence escalates and will gradually be a normal part of the relationship. Common features in a violent relationship you might recognize: [ See picture below] The formative phase of tension: The man gradually becomes more displeased. The women will try and smooth things out and avoid conflict. The phase of violence: The tension culminates into violence. The phase of rebuilding: Violence alternate between warmth and coldness. The phase is characterized by the man’s remorse and promises about change for the better towards the partner. Prior to physical violence is normally a long period of coercive control. The violence always develops, and the extent of damage will normally become progressively larger. In that way, the spiral of violence develops over time and will after some time become a normal part of the relationship.
